WalamWalampoori: Seven and Half Dreams is by far one of the best Sri Lankan movies. They say good things take time. This is one good example of that. It will set a new benchmark for others to follow.
If you’ve watched Koombiyo, it will not be much of a surprise. You will kind of go in with a certain expectation already, and the team has made sure that it is met. Each cast member has delivered within their individual role. This revolves around 8 people, and I believe I’ve an idea why it’s called 7 1/2 dreams. Let’s just say that one person gives up halfway **That shouldn’t spoil anything**.
The sound department has done an amazing job. I always believe that any type of score or sound effects should only elevate and complement the visual experience, not distract. They’ve done an excellent job without getting in the way.
There were few handheld shots / creative choices to introduce camera shake which I was feeling 50:50. But if you are someone who has leant bit of cinematography, color theory, LUTs, basic camera skills like the rule of thirds, leading lines, it will be a visual treat. Superb job art direction and camera crew. Also, kudos to whoever found those locations for the beach scene, inside houses, or if it’s a set, whoever made the set with the Sigiriya backdrop.
Credit scenes were a bit of a mystery as well. I couldn’t decipher exactly what it was trying to narrate; maybe it was trying to link with social triggers in the recent past.
I am not an expert reviewer, just sharing my train of thoughts after watching the movie. I would rate it 9/10 (Taking 1 off because you didn’t release it sooner )
Book your tickets and watch it on the biggest screen closest to you.
